MY MUSIC

Euphonia_24614 (1).jpg

I have begun composing because it gives me greater freedom to shape my own artistic expression. Not because the music becomes more “correct,” but because it allows me to take clearer ownership of what I communicate. Writing for my own instrument has opened a space where performance and composition can meet on my own terms.

I am first and foremost a performer, and I will always be that. I have great respect for the craft of composition, and I do not see myself as—nor do I aspire to become—a formally trained composer. What I write grows out of experience and intuition, and the music is allowed to be spontaneous, somewhat raw, and at times naïve.

As a musician, I have spent many years refining technique, sound, and craftsmanship as far as I am able. I am interested in the tension that can arise when a finely honed performance practice meets something simpler, more open, and unfinished.

So far, I have written four works: two for solo euphonium, a euphonium concerto in versions for orchestra and wind band, and a piece for euphonium and saxophone quartet.

This page also includes recordings from live performances, offering an insight into how the music exists in the moment, in the space, and in the encounter with the audience.
